Good Friends Club

Networking is a proven principle in Lucia Kilger’s and Nicolas Berge’s artistic collaboration, which they reimagined for the Munich Biennale 2022. Reflecting upon the festival theme, they generated a form of community in which friendship is organised and celebrated: the Good Friends Club. I've assisted them in setting up the multimedia framework, programming the network meant to modulate the ritual of admitting new members to the club.

The challenge was to set up communication between the sound composition of the artists, controlling a 3*8m wide video-projection surrounding the audience, and lighting. A scanner module placed close to the entrance, where the audience was admitted by an assistant needed to be programmed, such as the assistants can trigger the scanner via a touch interface, choosing the length of the scan according to the size of the crowd, while leading every participant through the scanning process. The ones who have been scanned were assigned to a seat and could observe the next in line on one of the screens.
